The design is built entirely around the colour of the drink. A light blue body carries deep purple berry imagery and the Fanta wordmark, and the palette is unusually cool for a brand whose identity is orange. It works because the liquid inside genuinely is that colour, and it gets there through Blue 1, an artificial colouring. The Fanta Lemon can in this archive, made for the British market, carries no artificial colours at all. Same brand, same parent company, two entirely different sets of rules about what can go in the tin.

What makes this can physically distinctive is the sticker. A white label printed in French and Dutch has been applied over part of the original American artwork, listing ingredients, nutritional values and a best before date. That is not decoration, it is a legal requirement. Belgium mandates ingredient labelling in the languages of the region, and an American can carries none of it, so anyone bringing one into the country has to cover the gap themselves.

This is parallel importing, the practice of buying stock legitimately in one market and reselling it in another without going through the brand's own distribution. It is entirely legal within limits and it is why American sweets and drinks turn up in European corner shops at three times the domestic price. The sticker is the tell. A can sold through Coca-Cola's official European operation would have been printed correctly from the start.

Inside is a caffeine free berry soda made with carbonated water, high fructose corn syrup, natural flavourings, citric acid, sodium citrate and malic acid, preserved with potassium sorbate and sodium benzoate, and coloured with Blue 1.
