Notes

This Coca-Cola OREO Zero Sugar Limited Edition, is a 250ml can that was released in the United Kingdom in 2024. It exists because two multinationals decided to call each other besties. That was the actual campaign word, used throughout the announcement on 13 August 2024, with the can reaching shops nationwide the following month.

The design works because both brands already lived in black and white. An Oreo cookie sits inside a ringed device built from stacked Coca-Cola bottle silhouettes, so the two visual identities interlock rather than compete, and the sleek 250ml can gives the artwork a tighter, more graphic canvas than a standard 330ml would. Coca-Cola Creations is printed on it, which is the platform the drink belongs to, and a QR code links through to a Spotify experience built to merge two friends' listening tastes into a shared playlist.

Coca-Cola Creations is the company's outlet for oddities, launching short-run flavours aimed at Gen Z through music, gaming, sport, technology and pop culture. This one went further than most because it worked in both directions. Alongside the drink, Mondelez produced an OREO Coca-Cola Sandwich Cookie, two chocolate biscuits embossed with Coca-Cola designs around a white creme studded with red edible glitter. A drink that tastes of biscuit and a biscuit that tastes of cola, released together.

Distribution went beyond the usual supermarket run. As well as major retailers, cans were sold in Pizza Express, Popeyes and Slim Chickens from early September 2024, putting a limited edition can on restaurant menus rather than just shelves.

Inside is a cookie flavour sparkling low calorie soft drink, made with carbonated water, caramel colour E150d, natural flavourings, phosphoric acid, three sweeteners in acesulfame K, aspartame and sucralose, sodium citrates, caffeine flavouring, and salt. That last one is worth noticing. Salt is rarely declared on a cola, and it is a standard trick in confectionery for lifting sweetness and rounding out a baked note. It is suitable for vegetarians and vegans and free from gluten.

It sits in the archive alongside the Diet Coke x The Devil Wears Prada 2 cans, another collaboration where an outside brand was handed the packaging
