The brand was founded in 2016 by Huib van Bockel, a former head of marketing at Red Bull UK, who left to build the natural antithesis of the drinks he once sold. The can reflects that positioning, a clean design with mountain inspired artwork and tropical colour accents for this flavour, and one genuinely unusual feature: the climate footprint of the drink, 0.37kg of CO2e per kg verified by CarbonCloud, is printed directly on the can. Tenzing operates as a carbon negative business, offsetting more carbon than it emits.
This flavour also carries a claim to a world first, being the first natural energy drink with plant based branched chain amino acids (BCAA), derived from corn. The energy itself comes from 106mg of natural caffeine per can sourced from unroasted green coffee beans, paired with L-theanine from Rainforest Alliance certified green tea, vitamin C from acerola cherries and 165mg of electrolytes from Himalayan rock salt.
Inside is a sparkling drink of water, beet and fruit sugar, lemon, pineapple and passionfruit juices from concentrate, with no artificial ingredients or sweeteners. Vegan and gluten free, sold as singles and multipacks through Tesco, Co-op and other UK retailers.
