IRN-BRU Energy Original 500ml can, Scotland, UK, 2026.
The return of IRN-BRU's energy drink, relaunched nationally from April 2026 after the original run was discontinued, combining the brand's top secret 32-flavour essence with taurine, caffeine and B vitamins.
The can carries IRN-BRU's unmistakable orange and blue colourway into big can energy format, featuring the brand's iconic strongman emblem, a design language instantly recognisable to anyone who has ever stood in a Scottish corner shop. The 500ml format puts it head to head with Monster and Red Bull on the chiller shelf, sold in £1 price marked packs and plain packs at £1.50.
IRN-BRU Energy has had a genuinely winding history. It first launched in July 2019 in a 330ml slim can, expanded into 500ml big cans in January 2021 after AG Barr's distribution deal with Rockstar Energy ended, was later replaced by the standalone PWR-BRU energy range in 2023, and has now returned to shelves in 2026. The comeback targets a sports and energy category now worth £3.1 billion and growing at over 11% a year, accounting for 41% of all drink-now soft drink sales.
Inside is the distinctive orange liquid with the taste of IRN-BRU and the functional boost of an energy drink, at 32mg of caffeine per 100ml. Made by AG Barr, the Cumbernauld company that has kept Coca-Cola in second place in Scotland for over a century.
